Immenso (Sara Pollino mix)

April 16th, 2010

Ciro Visone and Luca Lombardi’s Immenso was remixed by Sara Pollino into a nice lush, orchestral sounding track that I’m playing quite a bit at the moment. Below is a preview from Audiojelly.com. You can also get it from DJDowload, but their embedded player didn’t seem to work as well. I’ve done a lot of shopping with both stores over the last couple of years without trouble.

Easy All Stars Lonely Hearts Dub Band

December 14th, 2009

First they did it to Pink Floyd. They next turned their attention to Radiohead. Now they take aim at the Beatles…

The Dub Side of the Moon was a surprisingly brilliant reggae rendition of Pink Floyd’s legendary Dark Side of the Moon. I’ve given it many, many plays since its release in 2003. It still works it’s way onto my iPod regularly.

The second album, Radiodread was a bit of a disappointment, but listening to a few clips of Lonely Hearts Dub Band has me thinking they’ve hit the right notes again. I’ll have to get my hands on a copy.

Science in music – They Might Be Giants

September 26th, 2009

Nature, the world’s premier science journal, has a weekely podcast in which they interview the authors of papers in the week’s issue. A recent episode featured something a little different – the band They Might Be Giants. In addition to their music for adults, the band had previously put out Here comes the 123s and Here comes the ABCs, two albums for children. Their newest CD/DVD is another kids album, titled Here comes science. Below are the videos of two of the tracks from the CD/DVD – Science is real and I am a paleontologist, the tune that caught my attention on the Nature podcast.

If you have young children, buy a copy now. Heck, I know a few adults who could use this!

A guitarist to watch

Another video from TED – this time it’s guitarist Kaki King performing three tracks. Her technique is somewhat unconventional and very interesting to watch.

Tunes

May 16th, 2009

Over the last couple of years I’ve bought a fair few tunes through AudioJelly‘s website. It’s a great site for UK and European dance music, including the trance and chill out that I consume. These days, you can also embed their previews onto your own webpages, so here’s a couple of tracks that caught my ear recently.

October 21st, 2008

A little while ago I noticed a mash-up tune on YouTube using Chicane’s Saltwater and Natasha Beddingfield’s Bruise Easily. The track has now been picked up by Modena Records and is available through various online stores including DJ Download. The official video is below.
